It isn't meant to be ironic in any way, but rather a tool for distributing ideas (a didact), while referring to work I'll be doing this summer (the future) utilizing green-screen (chroma key) technology. This is something I'd like to actually talk to you about in regards to collaboration. Let me know if you have any time this week to get together.

Tobey Albright + Zoey Carrier + Dr. Matthew Edlund
The exhibition New Luck is an experiment in making objects that are capable of holding significance (be it spiritual, cross-cultural, etc...) through multiplicity and imperfection. While imagining an object of this nature, it's nearly impossible to work around common methods of mass-production and the Benjaminian conversation which courses through the veins of our art institution's disdain for such methods. However, it is this disdain that New Luck embraces as its medium of confrontation. If New Luck could ask a question, it may be along the following lines... Is it the mass-production of ideas and cultural patterns which is responsible for your good fortune?

I think we all remember what Zoey felt like in this moment when they told her to smile. I think it may resemble the awkwardness we feel when we look at one another's art and say, 'Nice.' Zhang Xiaogang knows what I mean.

Tobey Albright + Tim Jaeger
In France, Tim did his best to fit in while still being true to his nature as an American artist. Many conversations were had on the porch where he stands here, in this painting, including the conversation regarding the residency in France being akin to a time machine. This time machine experience was thus named, 'Back to the Frencher.'

Tobey Albright + Claire Michelsen
It was at this point (this painting) he decided to turn more to painting. He decided that he would make an attempt to support the one he loved, and if he couldn't do this financially, then he could afford her the beauty she brought to his life [beauty being an organism formed by this relationship]. This decision was made not only out of a financial urgency, but also out of a romantic one - one where loss is always there, always around, and working with it is about defiance and the ability of sincerity to fix together.
